dana marcus, mss, LCSW

I hold a graduate degree from Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Bryant University. I've worked in community mental health, college counseling, inpatient mental health, and in private practice.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I had a career in independent progressive schools where I worked closely with families, students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.  I have a special place in my heart for those who work in schools.

my approach

I provide a welcoming, grounded base from which to help you navigate challenges and find sources of strength.  My approach is rooted in the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy, both short- and long-term.  I take a client-centered, collaborative approach to help you achieve your goals and gain insight and self-awareness.

I believe in the power of developing a therapeutic alliance that ensures you are seen, heard, and recognized as a unique individual.  I practice from a relational perspective exploring the meaningful ways the past influences the present.  My theoretical orientation is strongly influenced by attachment theory and trauma-informed care. I  often incorporate mindfulness-based practices into my work with clients.

I have worked with diverse populations including trauma survivors, those in recovery, those from traditionally marginalized groups, and young adults, adults, and elders from a variety of backgrounds, identities, and sexual orientations.

Once there was a girl who spoke
garlands; blossoms unspooled
from her mouth. Confused,
she tried to flee her own fecundity.
And her fear caused gardens.
